Weekend Courier - - Street Watch -

POLICE are asking shoppers to be vigilant following a recent series of handbag thefts in Rockingham and Mandurah shopping centres. Offenders are using distraction techniques to steal purses and handbags, usually by bumping or brushing past their victim. Offenders often work in pairs, with one distracting the victim by dropping items on to the floor and, when the victim stops to help, the other offender removes belongings from the victim’s bag. Keep a close-eye on handbags, do not leave them unattended in the trolley and keep them zipped up. Police are viewing security images and are shocked at how brazen offenders are stealing items in such close proximity to victims. –
