Beach beauty dazzles

A spectacular Mermaid Beach mansion, complete with a palatial man-cave, sells for an impressive $16.45m

MEGA sales continue on the Gold Coast with Melbourne Cup winner David Henderson’s mansion fetching $16.45 million.

The five-bedroom, five-bathroom Mermaid Beach beachfront house hit the market last year for almost $20 million but it finally hooked a buyer this month after a $3-million price slash.

It is the second $16 million sale this year, following the top sale of a palatial Hope Island mansion for $16.75 million in July.

The Mermaid Beach mansion has space for seven cars as well as a dedicated bedroom for your pet dog.

Mr Henderson is one of the owners of 2013 Melbourne Cup winner Fiorente and built the house in 2010 with wife Rhonda.

David Henderson’s brother, Luke Henderson, of John Henderson Professionals Mermaid Beach, secured the sale.

“It is really nice seeing a local pick up a property like this because it demonstrates how mature the market is and how serious our own residents are in investing in our own community,” he said.

“There are very few homes of this quality that come on to the market along the beachfront at Mermaid Beach,’’ he said. “At the same time, the number of buyers who can afford properties of this nature are also quite limited.”

The Henderson family said they had always lived closed to the beach and did not plan to go too far. “David and I have fond memories of hanging out in the man-cave playing pool and our families have spent a lot of time at the mansion. You can’t outgrow it.

“The basement has possibly the greatest man-cave ever designed. The four-screen television is my favourite.

“We have just gone property shopping for David and he will be staying close to the beach. After all it’s not real Gold Coast living if you can’t walk to ride to the beach.”
