Weekend Gold Coast Bulletin - Property

This family gem has stood test of time

The perfect waterfront home was the centrepiece of a wonderful childhood but after 30 years it has run its course as a family home — which is lucky for a new buyer

GETTING ready for school and jumping in the tinnie in true Gold Coast fashion was the highlight of Guy Clothier’s childhood at 36 Pilot Court.

Mr Clotheir said his family bought the Mermaid Waters property almost 30 years ago and have adored it ever since.

He said he grew up in the house with his identical twin Daniel and two sisters.

“We actually lived in the Middle East but we had a holiday house on the Gold Coast so we would come here a lot,” Mr Clotheir said.

“Dad eventually ended up moving the whole family here and we loved it.

“My brother and I always took the tinnie to school on Fridays and we would park up at TSS (The Southport School) boat shed.

The property, owned by Mr Clothier’s 80-year-old mother, still oozes its original 80s style in the pink and gold bathrooms but the kitchen has been upgraded.

“I’m a cabinet maker by trade and I did toy with the idea of totally renovating the house but we couldn’t come to terms with changing the family home, it meant too much to us and we loved it just the way it is,” Mr Clotheir said.

“My two sisters were both married here and we used to have the wildest parties back when we were growing up,” he said. “Mum was the real party starter. Our guests would always end up in the pool!”

The house has an open-plan design and captures stunning waterfront views.
