New Palm Beach smart home offers a family oasis within walking distance to the beach

- WORDS ALEISHA DAWSON

RESORT-style living goes next level in this new Palm Beach house.

Craig Wheeler and Carlie Reed bought the property in 2013 with a grand vision to build their dream home.

They spent 12 months designing and building the five-bedroom residence on Cypress Terrace.

“It was in a perfect location to build a dream home,” Mr Wheeler said. “We are super happy, it’s just so perfect.” No expense was spared in the two-level house with a variety of wood and glass features combining with high ceilings to create a modern and sophisticated interior.

Control4, the home automation system, gives control of the audio and lighting system throughout the house.

The kitchen has quartz benchtops, two pack cabinetry and Miele appliances including a smart convectional oven, integrated microwave, warming tray and gas top cooking.

The kitchen, lounge and dining areas open out to an outdoor dining area via bifolds that flows out to the pool and cabana.

This area is the true hero of the house with plantation shutters, built-in lounge, lighting, fans and an outdoor kitchen.

A purpose built retreat is also behind the pool that could be used as granny flat or teenager’s retreat.

“We wanted to build the most convenient home within walking distance of Palm Beach’s best locations,” Mr Wheeler said.

“Once you enter the home it’s like your own private sanctuary, it’s so secure and convenient.”

There are plenty of standout features for the entire family.

“Carlie loves her bath and ensuite, the kids love the pool while I love the sound system that is controlled via the Control4 system,” Mr Wheeler said.

“I built speakers right throughout the house and entertaining areas.

“We had family come and stay for Christmas and Easter and we loved it.”

The house also features a home theatre, self-watering gardens and a freestanding bath in the ensuite.

Ray White Robina’s Shaun Darcy said he had 33 groups inspect the property during the first weekend of the marketing campaign.

“It has proven to be one of the most popular homes we’ve listed,” Mr Darcy said.

“It’s a new breed of home because the technology is so advanced.”
