Bold design sets a new benchmark

The considered design of a newly completed residence in Sanctuary Cove has redefined luxury living in Hope Island’s most exclusive enclave

- WORDS JANELLE ESTREICH

IT takes a certain kind of residence to impress the locals inside Queensland’s most exclusive gated community.

From the day building began on 2205 The Parkway, the Joe Adsett design has been a major talking point inside Sanctuary Cove.

“The architectural design is so different from anything else in the street and in the neighbourhood,” said owner Michael Cowling, who has put the newly completed home to market with wife Michelle. “A lot of people who couldn’t understand it while it was being built have now been through and the reviews have been magnificent.”

Overlooking The Pines golf course, the state-of-the-art single-level residence has been thoughtfully designed to take full advantage of a lifestyle built around golf and entertaining in the Queensland climate.

The outdoor entertaining area on the southern side capitalises on views of the golf course while 3m high glass doors off the front courtyard invite sunlight and warmth into the northern side of the home.

“It’s basically a north-facing home with south-facing views,” Mr Cowling said.

“On any day in winter, you can be sitting in that courtyard, having a coffee and reading the paper, with the sun shining on you.

“During summer, you can be on the other side of the house, shaded from the sun and enjoying the magnificent golf course views.

“It’s a beautiful home to be in all year round.”

The contemporary design is complemented by a carefully curated selection of building materials, many new to the Australian market.

Slimline clay bricks imported from Denmark define the facade, while Italian tiles, Laminam benchtops and Australian-made Polytec cabinetry feature inside.

The latest C-Bus home control technology takes everyday luxury to the next level while a lighting expert was consulted to achieve ultimate ambience.

“Rather than flood the house with 73 downlights, we like to use a lot of LED strips and very low-level lighting in conspicuous places, such as under benches, in curtain rebates and in bathroom cabinetry,” Mr Cowling said. “Low-level lighting brings that beautiful ambience to the house of an evening which is very important in all of our homes.”

Indeed, The Parkway project isn’t the Cowling’s first in Sanctuary Cove – the four-bedroom house they built on 2230 Arnold Palmer Drive, Sanctuary Cove smashed the Australian sales record for a house fronting a golf course when it sold for $6.5 million in 2018.

The couple snapped up another block inside The Master’s Enclave, where they completed their own Joe Adsett-designed house and moved in last Christmas.

“We’ve settled and we absolutely love it,” Mr Cowling said. “We’ve got no intentions to move from here for some time to come.”
