Coastal hideaway that has the looks

- – Lisa Hughes

IF you’re looking for a coastal hideaway where you can just walk in, put your feet up and soak up the serenity, your search ends here. This multi-level home tucked at the back of a battle-axe block on Bilinga’s Golden Four Drive is the work of Matt and Chani Thompson and it ticks all of the right boxes.

Designed by architect John Campbell and crafted by award-winning builder Genco Construction, it offers the perfect mix of luxury, tranquillity and privacy along one of the Coast’s most burgeoning beachside suburbs.

The Thompsons, who are about to have a baby, built the house with the expectation that it would be their new forever home, so they poured their heart and soul into it, putting careful thought into every room nook and cranny.

“The specs and attention to detail are based on what we wanted for ourselves, so we didn’t hold back,” Mr Thompson said.

Bathed in white, with wood floors and cabinetry, large windows, arched doorways and window frames, and interiors styled by Kirra and Kirra, the house looks like it belongs in the pages of a glossy holiday magazine.

But that, the Thompsons said, was exactly what they were hoping for – a home they could turn into an income opportunity.

“We were trying to make it a photoshoot house, which we could turn into a business once we had the baby,” Mrs Thompson said. “I even started an Instagram page for it – @Bilingahideaway.”

The room they poured the most thought into, though, was the kitchen.

Wanting it to be luxurious but functional, Mrs Thompson laboured over details such as which way cupboards opened and the proximity of appliances.

“It’s crucial to feel comfortable in the kitchen or you will end up avoiding it.”

Just as the build was nearing completion, an opportunity to work on another project proved too hard to resist and is the couple’s reason for selling.

“I’m sad we won’t be living in the hideaway,” Mrs Thompson said, “but that’s OK, we’ll rebuild it again.”
