Chance to buy into boaties’ paradise

- – Lisa Hughes

DESPITE having lived in the salubrious suburb of Mermaid Beach, the owners of this Paradise Waters home have no regrets about leaving the beachfront behind for a life on the river. Wayne Cook and Donna Tickle moved to the equally exclusive enclave of Paradise Waters during the midst of the pandemic, after falling in love with the “resort vibe” and the convenience of the location.

“We are just a short walk from many of our favourite bars and restaurants on Tedder Ave in Main Beach and just over the Southport Bridge is eclectic Southport with its stunning Broadwater and parklands. It’s all so handy that the car is often redundant,” Mr Cook said.

“The best part of living here, though, is the water. Surrounded by canals, the river and Broadwater, there are so many water views which, for us, translates into a true connection with nature.”

Marketing agent Russell Rollington of First National said Paradise Waters was a quiet suburb, with ultra-wide streets and stately homes that tended to attract the well-heeled.

He said homes in the precinct were also tightly held, making them sought-after. A house in near by Admiralty Dr, for example, recently sold for a record $13.6m.

It is also a coveted address for those who love boating because of the easy accessibility to main river and the Broadwater.

Mr Cook considers a home in Paradise Waters as a sound investment.

“This end of the Coast is undergoing a metamorphosis. The redevelopment of Fisherman’s Wharf is a perfect example of this,” he said. “I don’t want to leave the area and our lovely family home, but now we are of a certain age, we have to be realistic about downsizing.”
