Another record sale for Varsity

Property in the lakeside suburb is coming into its own with prices starting to breach $2m

- LISA HUGHES

VARSITY Lakes is emerging from the shadows of neighbouring Robina and Burleigh Heads, with a second house sale breaking through the $2m ceiling to set a new price record in the suburb.

The five-bedroom property on Lake Orr at 2 Massachusetts Court sold for $2.27m through Michelle Wegener of Harcourts Coastal.

With capacity for dual living, the home was bought by a multi-generational family from Melbourne, who fell love with the water views.

It is the second property to fetch more than $2m in the suburb since the start of the year, exceeding the previous record price set in March of $2.08m by almost $200,000.

Ms Wegener said that in a time when prices were falling elsewhere, Varsity Lakes was starting to come into its own.

“It’s good for the suburb, which is really entering into new territory,” she said.

“The first group that went through the home ended up buying it and the negotiations went on for five or six weeks, so they were genuine.

“We had several offers on it and while there may not be as many buyers around, the ones that are there are quality, who are prepared to pay the price for the right home.”

“Varsity has always been a bit of a secret spot, a bit in the shadow of Robina and Burleigh but now more people are discovering it – the secret is out.”

In other sales, A-lister agents Alex and Victoria Fleri of Amir Prestige Group have had a lucky run with the number three after nailing a trifecta of tri-level home property sales since the start of the year.

Totalling $15.61m all three sales broke street records with the most recent being that of 7 Wombat Court on the Isle of Sorrento. The only home on the isle to stretch to three storeys, the luxury home sits in a north-facing position on main river.

Five offers were received for the property which sold to a buyer from Melbourne.

In Main Beach, Duncan Longmore of Kollosche sold a four-level villa at 1/28 Lennie Avenue for $3m.

A feast for the eyes, the villa takes you on a trip from Asia to Europe with its interiors, and is crowned by a heated Turkish bath with Italian Bisazza gold-leaf mosaic tiles.
