Magical living in the mountains

Built to feel a world away, yet walking distance to hinterland food and wine spots, this one of a kind homestead has it all, writes Carin Pickworth

Gareth Davies thought his Tamborine Mountain home would make the perfect wedding venue, but that vision will now be up to someone else to actualise. “It always felt like a wedding destination property to me, but we never ended up doing it,” Mr Davies said.

“Maybe whoever buys it will think the same thing and make it happen.”

It’s not hard to see why the five-bedroom, three-bathroom homestead could be mistaken for a picture-perfect wedding backdrop.

From the tree-lined sealed entry to the grand Neo-Palladian facade of the curvaceous and classic home.

Affectionately known as The Main House Retreat, the property oozes country charm across three parklike acres with an old-style manor feel.

For Mr Davies, who came from the suburbs, the location has been unbeatable.

“We are walking distance to wineries, walking distance to Witches and Curtis Falls, walking distance to eateries but you feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere,” he said.

“It is beautiful and private, and it has been an amazing experience to live on the mountain and to have access to so many beautiful places.”

And according to Mr Davies, they “don’t build them like this anymore”.

“You step inside this house, and you get an immediate appreciation for quality craftsmanship,” he said.

“You have things like board-by-board cut ceilings to fit the perfect hexagonal shape and a handmade mosaic bathroom.

“You couldn’t build something like this anymore, it would cost a fortune.”

Think spacious bedrooms with a selfcontained quarter and dual living potential, ample entertaining spaces, and one-off domed ceilings.

Set across two levels the curved and covered verandas offer not only a wow factor, but a seamless indoor and outdoor living retreat.

Interior features include a grand entry, stone benchtops, polished floors, fireplace, veranda access from every bedroom, multiple living areas and unique detailing throughout.

Outside you’ll find lush greenery, topiary, sculptures, water features, a pond with bridge seating, orchard, and vegetable gardens.

Mr Davies said the whole package struck the perfect balance between Tamborine Mountain heritage and modern century accommodation.

“We came from a beach area, and we never thought we’d have the chance to live somewhere like this,” he said.

“I’m certain we’ll never find a house like this or a location like this ever again, it’s been magic.”

The amenities of Tamborine Mountain are right on the doorstep with the beaches of the Gold Coast 45 minutes away and Brisbane 75km.

Those looking to acquire one of Tamborine Mountain’s most prestigious addresses can contact Ed Cherry from Harcourts Coastal Prestige on 0402 519 937.

The property is up for sale via an expressions of interest campaign closing on November 3.
