Grandeur with ocean views

Hinterland home’s stunning resort-style renovations make for a spectacular entertainer’s paradise

STAND out from the crowd in Mahana, a Hinterland property in picturesque Tallai. Martin Joy and partner Nicholas Ryan bought the property in 2011 – with good bones, the pair knew they could create something special.

“As soon as we saw it, we said ‘what a house’,” Mr Joy said.

“It had great lines and an incredibly solid structure.”

“We knew it would be a lot of work and it took a lot of work to fix it up.

“We did a big renovation in 2012 and then a few smaller ones along the way.”

It was previously owned by notorious Sydney bookmaker Terry Page.

“He was a very colourful identity and known around Sydney and the Gold Coast,” Mr Joy said.

“I believe Terry had some pretty wild parties here as well.”

Fast-forward more than a decade and Mahana is once again an entertainer’s dream brimming with resort-style features.

The couple went with a P & O style renovation — modern, glamorous, classy and stylish — modelled off classic cruise liners.

The unique residence also embodies the warmth, light, and tranquillity of its Hawaiian namesake Mahana.

Styled to perfection, the white backdrop works in harmony with pops of black.

The four-bedroom two-bathroom split level home is on a 4428sq m parcel of land with spectacular skyline and ocean views from Labrador to Burleigh Heads.

Feathered concrete, vaulted ceilings, pillars and balconies make a statement inside while lush gardens and flowering trees provide an inviting vibe throughout the property. Entertaining is a breeze with a showstopper kitchen complete with a servery and private garden with an woodfired pizza oven. This area flows out to the lounge and balcony with plenty of space for guests. A pool and sundeck, double-storey pool house with kitchenette, sauna and shower as well as a tennis court complete the package.

“The lifestyle of the house is just fantastic,” Mr Joy said. “It’s absolutely an entertainer’s dream. “We’ve had parties where we have converted the pool house into bedrooms and had up to 20 stay.”

In the main residence there are three bedrooms in the west wing, while the entire east wing is dedicated to the ultimate parent’s retreat, complete with a lounge area and private balcony.

Grand main bedroom has a walk-in wardrobe, private staircase to the kitchen, and a Moroccan-inspired ensuite with terrazzo tiles.

Other features include gated pedestrian access with Hikvision intercom system, sunken lounge and a gated driveway.

The property is going under the hammer on Friday, March 24.
