THIS trophy home in the heart of Surfers Paradise is more like a resort than a house There is no shortage of luxury features from a private stretch of beach, a billiards room, 7000-bottle wine cellar, in-ground spa and plunge pool, separate wet-edge pool, sauna, workshop and parking for six cars in a secure basement garage.

The architect-designed Balinese-style mansion that is spread over four blocks was originally built in the 1990s for surfwear industry pioneer Doug Spong.

The property last changed hands in 2016 for $15.5 million, when it became the holiday home of current owners Hongbo Li and Liyan Song.

Mr Li, who is based overseas, said he had been hunting for a trophy home in the city.

“I have always liked the Gold Coast for its weather and lifestyle,” Mr Li said.

“Nowhere else can really compete and I came across 59 The Corso when I was looking for an iconic home to purchase in the city. I was immediately drawn to its position and how grand it was.

“Its size, position, aspect and amazing views, day and night, were what led to the sale.”

The property has been carved out of solid sandstone and timber and is spread over 2000sq m with 42.1m of water frontage.

Facing northeast with unrivalled views of the city, the ability to purchase a property of this size in such a tightly held location is extremely rare.

At the private street entrance, double security gates open to a porte-cochere where entry to the home is through heavy doors that open to a foyer of floor-ceiling glazing that draws the eye up to a soaring void and gallery walkway above.

Ahead, panoramic views of the Nerang River across Adams Basin and Girung Island give way to a backdrop of some of the Gold Coast’s most iconic high-rises, including Q1, Soul and the Jewel Residences.

From the entrance, two wings wrap around a central courtyard and atrium where a podium appears to float above a system of waterways that flow inside and outside the home.

Set among grounds packed with coconut and date palms, the five-bedroom, fivebathroom property comes with a host of luxury, resort-level inclusions.

“There are also multiple living areas with views, so you can choose different areas in which to spend time depending on what mood you are in or what you are doing,” said Mr Li.

“I liked to have tea in the middle of the courtyard, looking out at what are the best views on the Gold Coast enjoyed in complete privacy.”

No longer able to spend time at the property, Mr Li has decided to sell, creating a rare opportunity for another buyer seeking to buy a statement Gold Coast property.

“You will never find anything like this in the Isle of Capri, which is north facing with a sandy beach on more than half an acre,” Mr Li said. “It’s unique, the only one,” Mr Li said. Kollosche agents Sam Guo, Julia Kuo and Claire Dai are marketing the property via expressions of interest, closing April 3.
