German flavour for Tedder Ave

PETER Weinert, the Sydney property investor who paid $7.25 million for a Main Beach retail centre earlier this year, is taking a step toward revitalising Tedder Ave by introducing a German-style restaurant and bar to the popular strip.

Mr Weinert, who bought the Village Centre in June, has leased space formerly occupied by the Tooley’s bar and restaurant to restaurateur Andreas Muller.

Mr Muller, in tandem with wife Heidi, operates Mt Tamborine’s Bavarian Grill Haus, a restaurant, cafe and winery.

His new business will be called the Bavarian Grill Haus on Tedder and is expected to open in March.

Mr Weinert said yesterday that he was excited about the Grill Haus’s arrival.

‘‘It’ll be quite unique, with great food, great flavours and a great theme,’’ he said.

He said he had always had Tedder Ave ambitions, viewing the street as having a very European feel.

Mr Muller, who a few weeks back attended an Oktoberfest in Bavaria, said he would stage a Tedder Ave Oktoberfest next year.

His new business, which would serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, would provide live German music at weekends and include everything from pork knuckles and steins, with service by beer maids.

The Bavarian Haus lease, which is for 10 years with a 10-year option, means the Village Centre is fully leased.
