Nest egg, not choccie ones, a real Easter treat

-

WHILE you’re celebrating your sweet tooth this Easter, you might want to turn your mind to how you could get some cash back to cover the cost of that chocolate fix.

According to Australian Taxation Office data, Gold Coasters have around $335 million lying around in unclaimed superannuation.

QSuper, the state’s largest super fund, is urging locals to go on an Easter “super” hunt and search for their lost nest egg.

QSuper chief executive Rosemary Vilgan said while the amount of lost super had decreased since this time last year, there was still a staggering amount that belonged in the nest eggs of Queenslanders.

“According to ATO data, Gold Coast residents have claimed around $59 million in lost super since this time last year but there is still more than $335 million in local super waiting to be claimed,” Ms Vilgan said.

“This amount is part of $2.7 billion of lost super that belongs to Queenslanders.”

Ms Vilgan said a simple search for lost super could unearth thousands of dollars and make a real difference to retirement outcome.

“The easiest way to find out is to use the free SuperSeeker service provided by the ATO. You’ll need your tax file number, name and date of birth,” she said.

“If you do find some lost super you can use the application form on the ATO’s website to claim it.”
