Salary cap issues put Glory’s finals spot at risk

-

PERTH Glory coach Kenny Lowe is adamant his players won’t fall into a heap despite the latest round of salary cap woes to hit the A-League club.

Glory are facing the glum prospect of being stripped of their spot in the finals after Football Federation Australia issued the club with a second show-cause notice over alleged salary cap breaches.

Perth have until next Wednesday to reply to the latest allegations, with FFA set to hand down its findings a short time after that.

In the meantime, Glory players will need to refocus ahead of Monday’s clash with the Jets in Newcastle, and next Friday’s home match against Sydney FC.

Glory sit just one point adrift of ladder leaders Wellington and Lowe is confident his charges won’t let outside distractions affect their onfield performances.

“Once you cross the white line there’s no inhibitions there,” Lowe said.

“In a way, it’s your sanctuary. You get away from the missus, you get away from the kids. You enjoy yourself. It will be no different this weekend.”

Lowe said the drama might even help galvanise the group.

“We created a bit of a siege mentality at the beginning of the year. There might be another one on the way.

“The players are in good spirits. They want to finish the season on a high,” he said.

FFA alleges the Glory have significantly breached the $2.55 million salary cap by failing to report payments and benefits to multiple players.
