Woman five times over limit

A WOMAN found to be almost five times the legal blood alcohol limit after driving 150km to visit her boyfriend has stunned senior police on the Gold Coast.

The 34-year-old from Woodburn on the Northern NSW coast was intercepted at Pacific Pines at 12.15am on Good Friday. Officers pulled her over after observing “concerning” driving along Donington Drive.

She allegedly recorded a reading of 0.300 on the roadside and 0.225 at the station.

Gold Coast District Superintendent Ben Hanbidge said police were appalled at her behaviour.

“This is a shocking result at any time, it presents a great danger to the increase of motorists travelling to enjoy the Easter break,” he said.

“There was no evidence she was drinking in the car, but we know she left her home in Woodburn some time on Thursday night to drive to Oxenford to visit her boyfriend.”

The woman was held at the Southport watchhouse overnight and is expected to appear in court later this month.

Gold Coast traffic police are on a five-day operation to keep the roads safe over the long weekend.

Three drivers were caught drink-driving and a 31-yearold Burleigh Heads man was allegedly driving under the influence of a drug.

Water Police were out in force yesterday but Senior Constable Mick Banyari said boaties were mostly wellbehaved.

Also on the water, 44-yearold Paradise Point man Ross Barclay spent yesterday uprighting his 42ft converted trawler from Bums Bay at The Spit after it had been stolen, stripped and dumped.

He said it went missing from a mooring at Paradise Point and was unsure if he would make a formal police complaint.
