Uniform rules but kids cold

- LEXIE CARTWRIGHT LEXIE.CARTWRIGHT@NEWS.COM.AU

FURIOUS parents say their children have had their jumpers taken off them at school during the coldest week of the year because they are not part of the official uniform.

Children from Upper Coomera State College have been sitting in draughty classrooms and out in 7C weather in nothing but polo shirts and shorts.

Mother-of-five Stacey Jaundrell, 31, who has three children at the school, has launched a petition on change.org called Upper Coomera State College Please review your uniform policy to keep our kids warm in winter.

It already has an army of nearly 600 angry parents.

“About two years ago now when I first sent my kids to school, they were picky about things like no white stripes on the shoes,” Ms Jaundrell, who suffers from a rare cancer, psuedomyxoma peritonei, said. “It’s just gotten ridiculous now.

“My son Charles, who is in Year 10, had his jumper taken off him on a freezing cold day. They could at least let him wear it until we sort out payment for the right one.

“My daughter was asked to remove her amber necklace and they forced her to take out her blue and pink hair ties and told her to get school colours.”

Ms Jaundrell said the policy was too strict and the lim- ited options too expensive.

Upper Coomera mother Kelly Briggs said she had to write a note to allow her son Aidan, 14, to wear track pants.

Education Queensland failed to respond before deadline but managed to call Ms Jaundrell after the Bulletin contacted them about the matter.
