Bears in no mood to ease off

- TRAVIS MEYN RUGBY LEAGUE

BURLEIGH may be cruising at the top of the Coast 2 Coast Cup standings but that doesn’t mean the Bears are about to slacken off.

A win against Runaway Bay at Bycroft Oval tomorrow will wrap up the minor premiership for the Bears who have only lost one game all season.

But the Bay aren’t about to be pushed over.

The Seagulls recorded a great victory over Tweed Heads last weekend and have been cruising up the ladder.

And Bears coach Matt Foster knows his team can’t drop their bundle against the Preston Campbell-inspired Bay.

“They had a good win down at Tweed,” he said. “Unfortunately, Tweed have a different video company to what the rest of us use so I haven’t been able to see the game.

“I’ve seen a few videos of them throughout the year and they play pretty well off the back of Preston Campbell.”

Burleigh will field brothers Dylan and Daymeric Pelo in the forward pack but they have lost Harrison Hughes to the Titans under-20s.

Foster said he wanted his team to maintain their form after thrashing Tugun 50-10 last weekend.

“We’re just focusing on us at the moment and doing what we can,” he said.

“I spoke to the boys about looking to play for performance, not outcomes. We’ll go into every game looking at the team, break them down and put it all into place.

“We’ve done pretty well with that so far. The boys have got to be commended for what they’ve done.”

In other Round 14 matches, Tweed Heads will host Bilambil in the local derby at Piggabeen tomorrow while Currumbin travel to Southport for the bottom-of-the-table clash.
