FIVE MINUTES WITH A FRONTLINER How I ended up doing this

KATE NESPECA, 22 WALRUS SOCIAL HOUSE BAR STAFFER, SURFERS PARADISE

I’m from Newcastle originally. I found this job behind the bar going online and I was just looking for something new at the time. I also wanted to work more in Surfers Paradise where it’s busier and there are more hours.

What I love about the Gold Coast I like the beach, I like the weather and I love how much there is to do here on the Coast, the active lifestyle. There is so much more to do here than Newcastle. Coming to the Gold Coast for me was just a seachange.

Best night out on the Gold Coast I would either go out to Broadbeach for a nice dinner or come here to Walrus Social House in Surfers to start with some nice tapas and have a few drinks. If I did the latter and came here, then I would catch the tram after Walrus and head to one of the Broadbeach bars for cocktails and going out. I like that there is more sitdown bars and clubs there in Broadbeach.

Future plans? I am at university now doing a double degree in business and graphic design. There are some brains up here somewhere ... ha ha. I want to land a job overseas after I finish and doing some travel is my main goal at the moment. I am half way through my double degree right now so two more years to go.

When not here you can find me ... ... either studying or drinking or at my local Burger Crew. I just won free burgers there for a year — I get a free one each week.
