Weekend Gold Coast Bulletin

SMALL TALK

-

Gold Coast nightclub boss Jamie Pickering, 50, has tied the knot with his girlfriend of three years, Jess Keegan. The 28-year-old former Noosa girl and her beau – the owner of popular Surfers Paradise clubs Vanity and Sin City – made it official in Bali last weekend while on holiday with close family.

One thing we are partial to at Small Talk is anyone with the rather regal moniker of Regina. (Shallow? Moi? Guilty as charged!) At the opening of the Anne Frank exhibition on Sunday Regina Goldstein gave her name after a picture and said, “Just call me Regina ‘Hot Pies’ Goldstein.” (A reference to the yummy pastry delights served up by the family business.) To which one of her friends quipped, “Surely the ‘pies’ would be redundant: it should just be ‘hot’.” Huge laugh from Mrs Goldstein, and thus was born a new nickname.

We are guessing there will be a marked improvement in the photographic offerings on social media delivered on the page of the seat-shifting V8 driver Russell Ingall. The reason is that Russell was prompted by Mark Skaife on Fox Sports to buy his wife Julia a new Rolex to celebrate his return to competitive racing. When quizzed by Russell, Julia confessed what she really wanted was a camera. Enter a brand spanking new Canon and Julia is as happy as a clam taking pictures in and around the pits and track, and posting them to social media sites.

Good luck to our own Lauren Holland as she heads south to Melbourne for 10 days of frills, fascinators and high fashion. The trip is a result of Lauren’s win at the GCTC earlier this year when she won the Queensland final of Myer Fashions of the Field. Sporting folk have their grand finals but for any dedicated follower of racing fashion the Spring Carnival, including Derby Day, Melbourne Cup and Oaks Day, is the Super Bowl of style. We know that she will do us proud.

What started out as an attempt by Caralee Caldwell to discover a better way of eating and living has become a way of life that has inspired thousands. The beautiful mother of three and wife of Councillor Cameron Caldwell wrote The Real Food Pledge as a means of showcasing how food that is gluten, dairy and sugar-free can be delicious and fun. “The response has been amazing, especially in New Zealand ... There has been a lot of media interest especially from the big national magazines and I am about to release my second book,” she said.
