THE man distributing the popular acai berries throughout Australia says people can get their health kick for a fraction of the price.

The berry-licious brunch staple will set you back an average of $12 at Gold Coast cafes, but Dwayne Martens, founder of the Amazonia group, said you could create your own bowl for a fraction of the cost.

“You can generally DIY a good acai bowl for $4 or $5,” he said. “This season mango, banana and cacao have been really popular toppings. I have also seen people try jackfruit.”

Mr Martens said Gold Coasters were even combining their love of acai with avocado.

“When you blend avocado into the base it makes an acai mousse,” he said.

But Mr Martens, who was named young entrepreneur of the year, said the Coast was the undisputed capital of the super berry.

“Acai epitomises Gold Coast culture, we’re healthy, we’re on the beach, what more could you want,” he said. “There are a lot of proactive (acai) businesses on MORE than a tenth of children have seen pornography on the internet by the age of 10, research has found.

HUMAN speech may have developed from our ape-like ancestors blowing raspberries and making squeaky, kissing sounds, scientists say.

Researchers from Durham University in Britain said language evolved from noises similar to those still made by great apes.

Dr Adriano Lameira analysed recordings of 4486 “kiss-squeaks”, which involve smacking the lips, taken from 48 orang-utans in four different wild populations.
