Schache in fine touch as Lions test stocks

- – GREG DAVIS

BRISBANE young gun Josh Schache is back and on the attack.

The key forward booted three goals and unselfishly gave up the chance for a fourth major with a goal assist in a lopsided Lions intra-club match at Coorparoo yesterday.

The 2015 No.2 draft pick kicked 16 goals in 17 games in his debut campaign last year before being rested for the final three matches after clocking up team-high playing minutes and kilometres covered.

He moved well yesterday and put himself in the right places at the right times and could have left Coorparoo with a bigger bag of goals after spraying two attempts in the first half.

Schache was rested in the final term and was not the only key forward to enjoy a productive afternoon, with Josh Walker booting four goals.

Jono Freeman added two goals while Eric Hipwood kicked a booming one in limited minutes to underline the number of tall-forward options available to new senior coach Chris Fagan.

Dayne Zorko and Sam Mayes added two goals each for the Lions side in the orange jumpers, which was stacked with all available senior players.

Their opposition in the green jumpers comprised fringe senior players, reserves and academy top-ups.

Josh Clayton, Cedric Cox, Corey Lyons and Jake Barrett provided some eye-catching moments while former Rising Star winner Lewis Taylor set up a number of goals.

Daniel Rich, Stef Martin and Dayne Beams were all rested while top draft pick Hugh McCluggage played in the stronger squad and had a couple of nice touches.
