Makeover specialist joins team
ESTEEM Medi Spa has added the high-powered services of a well-known plastic surgeon to the team.
President of the Australasian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons and “Mummy Makeover” expert, Dr Mark Magnusson, has joined the Main Beach clinic.
His appointment also sees Esteem’s Dr Terrence Scamp share the load after more than 20 years of solo practice.
Dr Magnusson will work at Esteem at Main Beach two days a week while still maintaining his practice in Toowoomba until he is able to make his transition to the Gold Coast permanently. Both doctors are leaders in the anti-ageing cosmetic injectable and laser therapies field.
“Dr Mark is a fully qualified specialist plastic surgeon who has been in practice in Toowoomba since 2000. He is one of the more active members of the plastic surgery community and like myself he has a strong interest in non-surgical facial rejuvenation,” Dr Scamp said.
“Dr Magnusson will bring his extensive experience in body contouring surgery to Esteem.”
Dr Magnusson specialises in body contouring and surgery after massive weight loss, such as the “Mummy Makeover” – breast and tummy surgery, body lift, arm and thigh reduction, as well as revision breast implant surgery, replacement or addressing botched jobs. ON any given day, the Coastal Productions team could be handling the installation of giant chandeliers with dedicated lighting effects to organising vision content for massive LED screens.
Or they may be creating a magical backdrop for a Gold Coast awards night or sending a shipping container of specially designed props overseas.
From their packed warehouse in the backblocks of Burleigh, Coastal Productions has evolved into one of the biggest event production and styling companies in southeast Queensland.
It specialises in creative design and decor installation for corporate events, gala dinners, awards nights and product launches.
Its client list features global companies and high-profile corporate clients to leading Professional Conference Organisers.
Managing director Mark Souter gained early exposure to the events industry after completing an apprenticeship at the Hilton hotel in Melbourne, then renowned for holding major events, including the Logies.
After moving to the Gold Coast where family was based, Mr Souter began work as a maintenance electrician at Jupiters Casino when it first opened. He ended up handling much of the audio-visual work for the casino’s shows and conferences.
He began work with an events firm which in 1989 morphed into Coastal Productions.
After buying out two partners around three years ago, he took over operation of the business. Coastal’s core business is as a theming and decor supplier and event producer, managing events from concept to completion.
From a purpose-built warehouse in Burleigh – the creative hub where concepts are formed – the Coastal team is the production manager, subcontracting other businesses where required.
Props are sourced from across the world or built inhouse as required. Mr Souter said the team loved the creativity of bringing someone’s “crazy ideas together”.
“We have a huge range of props, stage sets and theming decor which includes inflatables, glow bars, furniture, linens, chair covers and table centrepieces; and are always designing and building our own new additions to our inventory,” he said.
Having the “runs on the board” and proving over years of operation they can do the job is hugely important.
“Trust is a major factor,” he said.
“We have to meet deadlines. You’re on time or you’re history and you’re only as good as your last job.
“But I love this industry. I’ve met some great clients and been able to travel the world for work.”
A family affair, Mr Souter is proud the business operates as a close-knit team.
The Coastal crew includes daughter Chloe Hilton and husband Matt Hilton. Son Jake Souter is completing a business degree before joining fulltime.
Wife Maryanne – the pair met while working at Jupiters – handles administration and accounts.
Other team members include Alison Gowland, creative events and styling manager, Scott Perkins and Neesha Matera.
Whether it be creating a masquerade ball theme for an awards event, a winter wonderland setting or circusthemed event for a major hotel, Mr Souter said the team was passionate about ensuring “every detail is spot on”.
“A large chunk of our business is repeat business,” he said. “I love the gratitude from clients when we get it right; that’s extremely rewarding.
“People walk into the room, go ‘wow’ and start taking photographs. When you see it all come together, that gives me the biggest buzz.”
