Pete’s rapt to be here
ACE Sydney trainer Peter Snowden may not have a Winx in the stable but he is confident he has enough ammunition to make a splash at the big Brisbane races of the Queensland winter carnival.
The Brisbane Racing Club launched its carnival at a suave event in the capital yesterday.
While the Queensland winter carnival is under way, the elite BRC portion begins on May 13 and comprises five days of Group 1 action at Doomben and Eagle Farm.
Snowden has vowed to be a major player again this year, having come close to causing a huge upset in beating Chris Waller for leading trainer at last year’s BRC carnival.
Snowden, who trains in partnership with his son Paul, has long sung the virtues of racing horses to Queensland.
“Horses do so well up here,” Snowden said.
“I haven’t been lucky enough to have a Winx (who kicked off her 17-race winning streak at this carnival two years ago) but I’ve had a lot of horses that made names for themselves at this carnival.
“Hopefully I’m bringing Upcoming meetings in the Queensland winter carnival
Today, Doomben April 29, Eagle Farm May 6, Gold Coast May 13, Doomben May 20, Doomben some with the goods this year.”
Snowden’s team will be headed by sprinters Russian Revolution and Redzel, while he has high hopes for twoyear-old Delfuego, who kicks off his career at Randwick on Anzac Day in a bid to stamp his Queensland passport.
The BRC showpiece, with prizemoney of $9.8 million, is part of Racing Queensland’s $14 million winter carnival.
The Gold Coast Turf Club will stage its feature A.D. Hollindale Stakes day on May 6.
