Boutoubia heading towards his best

-

THE hopes of a hat-trick of midweek knockout cup titles by Broadbeach United have been dashed by the battling Coomera Colts.

Coomera qualified for the final of the BLK Cup after beating the Dolphins in a penalty shootout in a semi-final at Viney Park on Thursday night.

The scores were locked 2-all after regulation time, again after extra time before the Colts took a penalty shootout by 5-4 when keeper Perry Moore saved Broadbeach’s fifth attempt from the spot.

The Colts now await the result of the second Cup semi between Mudgeeraba and Palm Beach at Sid Bigg Field on Tuesday night to see who they play in the final.

With Ray McDonald officially calling the shots as coach in place of the suspended John Duthie, Coomera has to survive a scare late when Broadbeach player Adam Powell had a goal disallowed after an offside call.

“There were about 20 players in front of Adam,” disgruntled Broadbeach coach Lee Vernon said.

“That was disappointing because we were aiming to become the first club to win three Cup titles in a row for 30 years.”

GOLD Coast Knights and Burleigh play their rescheduled Premier League fixture at the Croatian Sports Centre today at 4pm.

It is one of two catch-up matches for the Bulldogs, who also have one in hand against Murwillumbah as they chase a spot on the top four.
