We’re no dopes, we grow tomatoes
coast, as far north as Cairns, to campaign for the legislation of medicinal marijuana.
Ms Lynch cannot publicly encourage people to illegally grow cannabis, so instead will show how to grow tomato plants. “There will be demonstrations on how to grow, maintain and clone your tomato plants. There’ll also be demonstrations on how to do alcohol extractions for orange oil and rosemary butter in the magic butter machine.
“All of the skills that they’re going to need with legal products.
“There are also going to be hemp food demonstrations and someone’s going to be making smoothies for people to try.
“Now that hemp seed is legal, all of the different things you can (try) to include hemp seed in your diet.”
Ms Lynch said organisers were preparing for hundreds of participants across the weekend. “We’re hoping for big numbers because we’re canvassing the retirement villages and places where retirees have been.”
Ms Lynch said there was a large contingent of producers illegally supplying medicinal cannabis products, despite measures introduced by the federal government to make it easier to legally acquire the drug for relief.
As of October 30 last year, the government legislated to allow the cultivation and manufacture of cannabis products, but the permits pro- cess to enter the industry was rigorous and lengthy.
Ms Lynch said she thought demand for products far outstripped supply.
“The oil makers are just overwhelmed and it’s becoming ridiculous. We won’t be even speaking about cannabis in the demonstrations. It will be specifically an orange oil extraction using an alcohol method which is completely legal.
“It’s just teaching skills … what people do with those skills when they go home is entirely up to them.”
The event is free today and tomorrow at the Tugun Community Centre.
