COAST LUCKY TO HAVE STRONG SENSE OF COMMUNITY
IN the 25-plus years I have lived on the Coast I have witnessed an incredible transformation across our city’s culture, infrastructure and behaviours.
A large part of this growth can be attributed to a strong sense of community. Whether delivered by volunteers to those less fortunate or a group of individuals performing random acts of kindness.
The Commonwealth Games is a perfect example of how this can be achieved. A combination of organisations, individuals, government and volunteers have worked together to create an event that will provide opportunity for the Gold Coast unlike ever before.
International events such as the Games will have a lasting legacy on our community, creating improved infrastructure, additional jobs, memorable experiences and tourism opportunities.
Over the past 12 months the community has provided me enormous support both personally and professionally. I certainly believe now – more than ever – that having a strong support network within the community can make a world of difference when assisting individuals or businesses.
Many years ago, through my role at Dreamworld and Skypoint, I was fortunate enough to be introduced to the team from Rosies – Friends on the Street. With over 2500 homeless people
living in our Gold Coast area, Rosies reaches out to those less fortunate people in our community who are living rough, by offering them meals, support and companionship.
Each year Rosies host a Christmas lunch, bringing together more than 400 people to provide them with food, Christmas presents and most importantly an opportunity to connect with each other and share the experience of Christmas.
Dreamworld and Skypoint are proud to again be delivering the catering for this year’s event.
Our relationship with Rosies also extends to the SkyPoint Sea to Sky Q1 Stair Challenge, which celebrates its four-year anniversary in early 2018. The event is aiming to raise over $100,000 for Rosies. Anyone is welcome to enter and for a small fee you can help us reach our goals of assisting those in need.
I encourage individuals, organisations and businesses to actively participate within the Gold Coast community. You may be pleasantly surprised at how easy it can be to make someone’s day.
