Robert ‘Taglo’ Bregnsdal is kicking himself after unwittingly knocking back a party invite on Boxing Day from Margot Robbie and her English beau Tom Ackerley.

Mr Bregnsdal made a public Facebook post declaring “Swear to God I just Ubered Margot Robbie ... that or she has a twin,” before updating that it was in fact Robbie.

“After (the drive) she invited me to come to the house party I said ‘no, ’cause I was going to see Star Wars with the boys,” he laughed.

“And her husband kind of chuckled like ‘Ha ha, you don’t realise who we are’. “Afterwards I was like FML.” The Suicide Squad actress, who booked under the name Sophia, said she was born on the Gold Coast, attending Somerset College, but most recently had just moved to the US from the UK.

They allegedly discussed her love for Smirnoff Double Blacks before the couple invited Mr Bregnsdal to a house party they were going to.

Mr Bregnsdal said Robbie’s downto-earth nature stopped him from realising it was a Hollywood actress.

“If I didn't recognise her face I literally wouldn’t have thought she was a big celebrity,” he said.

“I was like ‘Nah, as if I have Margot Robbie in my car’.

“She was so down to earth, normal, chatty and friendly.

“We were talking about a Chinese restaurant she used to go to in Mermaid that closed because they were serving ibis meat and she said ‘Sooo I pretty much have a stomach of steel now’.”

While Mr Bregnsdal’s BMW 320d is listed on Uber Black, he confirmed Robbie called a regular Uber, and her comments complimenting the car caused doubt in his mind.

“She said she really liked my car and that it was one of the nicest Ubers she's been in,” he said.

“That was one of the first things she said, so I thought ‘Maybe its not Margot Robbie, she would be loaded’.

“She would have been in way nicer cars than this.”

During the trip from Carrara to Mermaid Beach, they made a stop at Dan Murphy’s and Mr Bregnsdal noticed whispers of “Is that Margot Robbie?” but still didn’t click.

After Robbie and Ackerley left the Uber and Mr Bregnsdal did some research.

Needless to say, he’s wishing he could turn back the clock.
