Robl back with Curdled

- MARK OBERHARDT DOOMBEN

RANDWICK trainer Peter Robl is set to continue his good run of Queensland black-type wins with Curdled today.

Robl, who has been training for just over two years, has won stakes races in Queensland with Eloping (Silk Stocking), Ninth Legion (Eye Liner Stakes) and Curdled (Winning Edge Stakes).

He is back with Curdled who runs in the Group 3 Vo Rogue Plate (1350m) at DoomMULTIPLE ben today. Robl said he had mapped out a four-run campaign for Curdled, which would take the gelding to the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m) at the Gold Coast on January 13.

Curdled has had two starts in Sydney this campaign for placings at Rosehill.

“The horse is going well and I think the Vo Rogue is the perfect lead-up for the Magic Millions Guineas a fortnight later,” Robl said.

PROVINCIAL jockey Aaron Bullock has reacted philosophically to being dumped from Magic Millions 2YO Classic favourite Jonker for Hugh Bowman.

Connections of the promising Newcastle colt have opted to book the recently crowned World’s Best Jockey for the $2 million race at the Gold Coast on January 13.

Bullock, 27, who is yet to ride a city winner, had been in the saddle for both of the David Atkins-trained Jonker’s lead-up wins at Newcastle and Wyong.

Bowman, who is holidaying in Europe after a successful riding stint in Japan, will take control of the horse, who is $4 equal favourite with Queensland two-yearold Ef Troop.

“He’s obviously a worldclass jockey. They wouldn’t be the only owners to make that decision,” Bullock told Sky Sports Radio.

“It’s the nature of the game. It would have been a great opportunity but it’s not meant to be.

“I totally respect the decision. They bought this horse 12 months ago with the idea of coming to the Magic Millions.

“I’m just privileged to help them get the horse to the final race.

“I didn’t lose too much sleep over it, and I do hope he wins. He’s a lovely little horse.”
