A BRUTAL attack on a Pimpama woman only ended when her five-year-old child asked the woman’s partner to stop, the Southport Magistrates Court was told yesterday.

The man, who cannot be legally named, did not enter a plea to assault occasioning bodily harm and breaching a domestic violence order.

Prosecutor Paula Cavanagh said the pair began arguing on January 3 about their families’ meeting.

The woman told her partner she no longer wanted to be in a relationship with him and asked him to leave her home.

Ms Cavanagh said it was then the man began to attack.

“He punched her in the eye and she fell to the ground,” she said.

“He continued to punch her until the five-year-old came up and told him to stop.”

The woman was left with a bruised eye and face, as well as bruised legs.

Her eye was severely swollen.

Duty lawyer Lisa Searing said the man, a truck driver, was the father of four children.

Ms Searing said he had no issues with drugs or alcohol. She said he had previously had an addiction but had kicked that habit many years ago.

“He insists that he doesn’t have any issue with the aggrieved,” Ms Searing said.

She said he had accommodation available in Brisbane, away from the woman.

Ms Searing said the man was worried the amount of time he had spent in custody would affect his full-time employment as a truck driver.

She said he would have no objection to having a nocontact order made as a part of any bail conditions.

Magistrate Gary Finger denied the man bail, saying he was not satisfied he would not reoffend.

“You have an appalling criminal history and shocking offending,” he said.

He adjourned the matter to the Domestic Violence Court on Friday.
