Wallaby ditched tablets

- DARYL PASSMORE

RUGBY star Karmichael Hunt threw away a bundle of cash and several tablets as officers approached him just before his latest cocaine possession arrest, police claim.

The pills are now being analysed and the Queensland Reds player could face more charges if they are found to be illegal substances.

The 31-year-old was arrested in Fortitude Valley in the early hours of December 30 and faces two counts of drug possession.

Hunt and a friend had attracted the attention of patrolling officers when they were skylarking and making a noise in a carpark.

Nine News last night reported that footage from bodycams worn by the officers showed the codehopping sports star reaching into his pocket as the officers approached them and taking out a bundle of cash and four pills which he threw on the ground.

Hunt is due to appear at Brisbane Magistrates Court on January 29 on the two drugs possession counts.

He has stood aside from training and all other rugby obligations with the Reds and the Wallabies until the outcome of the police action is known.

And he will be staring at the loss of his $1 million contract and the likely end of his sports career if he is convicted.

In 2015, he pleaded guilty to four charges of cocaine possession and was fined $2500. He gave evidence about Gold Coast Titans NRL teammates during a Queensland Crime and Corruption Commission probe into a cocaine syndicate.
