Father’s group holds memorial for slain man

- KATE PARASKEVOS

A SMALL crowd of mourners gathered outside the residence of murder accused Paanice Frauline Lawrence at Waverly St in Southport last night to pay tribute to Scott James Morrison.

Mr Morrison, 46, was allegedly shot and killed by Ms Lawrence at the Waverley St address just after 2am on Wednesday.

The memorial was organised by a group calling itself the Australian Brotherhood of Fathers, who claimed in a Facebook post that the community had been “rocked by another male domestic violence death”.

A small number of men and women from the group gathered outside the house, one man clutching a bunch of bright yellow flowers and another woman holding a single rose.

The mourners appeared stony-faced and bowed their heads as they walked down the street to the house where Mr Morrison was shot.

The group laid flowers at the fence of the property.

One member of the group who wished to remain anonymous said that while Mr Morrison was not known to him personally, he wanted to pay his respects and to acknowledge male victims of domestic violence.

The memorial comes after Mr Morrison’s accused murderer and partner faced the Southport Magistrates Court on Thursday morning charged with murder and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Police allege Mr Morrison was shot in his back by his girlfriend after he made “belittling remarks” to her.

Lawrence’s family claims she is innocent, was in a violent relationship and had been “pushed too far”.

Police documents revealed the pair had been drinking at a Waverley St house in Southport in the hours before the shooting.

The pair met at the Anglers Arms Hotel in Queen St, Southport, just a short distance from Lawrence’s home.
