FITNESS QUEEN SUES OVER YOUTUBE ‘DEFAMATION’
GOLD Coast fitness queen Ashy Bines is suing a Brisbane woman for $120,000, claiming she defamed her in a YouTube video and in an online media interview.
The video, titled “The day I got rolled by a major Australian influencer (and what happened next)’’, was uploaded on March 22 by Pinar Parry, according to a District Court claim.
In the video, Ms Parry claimed to have had a collaboration with Ms Bines (pictured) to promote Ms Parry’s product – wrist bands inscribed with Ms Bines’s quotes – on social media.
Ms Parry said after an “influencer campaign that went horribly wrong’’ she was really depressed and upset about it for 12 months, Ms Bines’ court claim says. Ashleigh Bines, known as Ashy, claims the words conveyed defamatory imputations that she did not honour contractual obligations and could not be trusted in business dealings.
Other alleged defamatory imputations were that she was unprofessional, unethical, an unscrupulous business person, her services as a social media influencer should be avoided and she acted in her own interests, without empathy or compassion for others.
Ms Bines has asked for a court injunction to permanently restrain Ms Parry from publishing or enabling others to publish the alleged defamatory words.
