Lack of licence bowls club over

TIMING is everything as the crew at the Southport Bowls Club found out recently.

The club had applied for an extension to its liquor licence so it could stay open until 3am.

SBC, also a favoured watering hole of Bulletin journalists, is currently home to the English team, including athletes, families and supporters, during the Commonwealth Games.

One night a group of 70 English supporters showed up at 11pm ready to splash their cash on the bar.

The problem, according to club chairman Graeme Mee (pictured), was the bar had closed as the licence extension didn’t kick in until the following night.

So the English had to find another drinking spot.
