KEY ROLE OF WOMEN
Q
It’s the first time for women’s sevens at a Commonwealth Games. In your role at Bond University (right), are you seeing a flow-on effect in participation?
A
Yeah, definitely. All through last year it was starting to build. Now people are actually going to be able to see it (at the Games), which helps, and I’m really hoping that postevent that is going to stay fresh in people’s mind.
Hopefully, with some success of the (Australian) teams it will have a real knock-on effect. We are seeing schools starting to get really heavily involved, we have got players that want to change codes and come across and play. We are definitely seeing very clearly an increase.
