TALKING THE TALK
Q
You’re doing a bit of commentary at the Games ... what is that like?
A
First and foremost you would like to be out there on the field but my time is up in that regard so it is fantastic to be part of a Commonwealth Games from a different perspective.
I was unfortunate not to have competed in four of them but the fact that I have an opportunity to be involved in a different capacity is really exciting and keeps me close to the action.
Q
Is the commentating side of things quite challenging or is it a breeze?
A
From my perspective, I come in as what they call a colour commentator. So predominantly what I am asked to do is give more of an experienced angle on the game and talk more about what’s been happening and the tactical awareness within the game.
It is very helpful actually to know players but certainly if you watch fulltime commentators, the amount of detail that they retain and they also research is quite phenomenal.
Q
What sort of lasting impact do you feel the Games will have on the Gold Coast?
A
I think it’s fantastic. Having lived on the Gold Coast for a while now, I always thought it was a great sporting area and it is great to see the Commonwealth Games in our backyard. From a rugby perspective it’s pretty exciting also.
Some of the facilities that will be built and developed within the city are definitely going to have a lasting effect here on locals.
