Moving to Monaco, so what’s another million?
IMAGINE being rich enough to splash out on a $9 million riverfront mansion and then throw an extra $1 million into renovating it.
What is nothing but a dream for most has become Glenn and Victoria Hargraves’s reality.
They have spared no expense modernising their Broadbeach Waters home at 75-77 Monaco St.
Now the couple are selling their Mermaid Beach home at 14-16 Ocean St to help cover the cost.
The luxury two-storey residence features a cinema, entertainment room with wet bar and wine cellar, a pool and an alfresco terrace with kitchenette.
Mr Hargraves said they enjoyed living in the beachside home, which they bought four years ago for $2.98 million, but always knew it was temporary.
They had their eyes on Monaco St for years but were waiting for the perfect home to hit the market.
“We were thinking of building but fortunately this house came up and it was spectacular,” said Mr Hargraves, who is part owner of directory and online search company Localsearch.
“It wasn’t perfect but we could see the potential.”
They started renovations on their Monaco St mansion in July last year and hoped to finish and move in next month.
Mr Hargraves says he has lost track of how much they have spent on the renovation.
“I stopped counting after $1 million,” he said.
“I need to sell (the Mermaid Beach house) because of that, it’s going to help a little bit.”
The renovation included adding a four-car garage with two bedrooms above it , and a cobblestone driveway, replacing the kitchen cabinetry and adding a butler’s pantry, turning one of the bedrooms into a home theatre, and landscaping the property.
Mr Hargraves said it was worth every penny because he planned to stay in the house for many years.
“I’ve built a few houses and this one is pretty much where I’m going to stay now,” he said. “It’s suits our family.”
Michael Kollosche and Jordan Williams of Kollosche Prestige Agents are marketing the Mermaid Beach property, which will go to auction on May 20.
