THE SNIPER HANDS OUT HIS AWARDS

-

MOST VALUABLE PLAYER

There is no doubt Matt Hilton should clean up every single award on offer. He has by far been the most valuable to his team with the number of goals and work he has put in. With a great disciplinary record – hard to say for a Hilton brother – he has shown why he is the best No.9 on the Gold Coast.

COLTS RESURGENCE IN ‘19

Although he probably won’t get recognised for his work, what Steve McDonald has done with Coomera this season has been great. Taking a very similar team with only a few additions to a competitive finish after their abysmal 2017 has gone unnoticed by most. Coomera would be foolish to get rid of him after such a great season.

MARLIN FISHING

It was supposed to be the year that Tweed United came back into the Premier League and showed their strength. Instead, a failed campaign led by coach Jason Buchanan has left the Marlins asking “what if?’’ Buchanan’s stocks have fallen dramatically after entering the Premier League play-offs as the clear favourite before falling at the hands of Southport. It will be a long offseason for the Marlins.

AN UNDERRATED FIGURE

Players often get overlooked due to their position, teams and playing style and that is the exact scenario with Surfers centre back Lee Jungje. The Korean is probably the best defender overall on the Gold Coast, without getting the praise he deserves. After a successful campaign with Apollo, it will be critical to ensure that he sticks around in the Morrison set-up to provide defensive stability.

KNIGHTS GAME-CHANGER

Despite Matt Hilton being the star of the show this season, Gold Coast Knights’ Max Brown has proved he is the best midfielder on the Coast. Having run a lot of the Knights’ attacking plays this season, Brown has to be the first player coach Grae Piddick tries to retain for the NPL season. Being able to stand out in a team full of experienced NPL players is hard, but he definitely did.
