Volkers to stand trial
FORMER top Australian swimming coach Scott Volkers has been committed to stand trial over a string of historical child sex offences.
The prominent instructor is facing five counts of indecent treatment of girls under the age of 16.
Volkers is accused of indecently dealing with two girls in the northern Brisbane suburbs of Aspley and Bald Hills during the 1980s.
The swimming coach appeared in Brisbane Magistrates Court yesterday where he was committed to stand trial.
He did not enter a plea and made no comment as he left.
Alleged victim Julie Gilbert, who gave permission to be identified, said it had been an exciting but hard day.
“We’ve waited 15 years for this ... and all we’ve ever wanted is our day in court,” she said.
