Job comes with bite Popular venue on the hunt for fresh blood

- AMBER MACPHERSON

CALLING all creatures of the night and peculiar personalities – this could be the perfect job for you.

For the first time in almost a decade, the vivacious vampire variety show Dracula’s at Broadbeach is looking for a new venue manager – and suits need not apply.

Dracula’s CEO Alfie Schmid said the company was looking for “fresh blood” to fill the role, an eccentric character who could bring youthful energy to the longstanding cabaret show.

“I’m looking for that young person that helps me connect with generation millennial,” Mr Schmid said.

“They have to be quirky, have a love of live music and theatre. We are so different here, it’s a real opportunity for someone.”

Candidates must be comfortable dealing with blood sucking monsters, dressing up in costume and have experience as a manager in a licenced venue. Mr Schmid said people from the LGBTIQ community, as well as those sporting tattoos and piercings, are encouraged to apply.

“This isn’t about lattes and smashed avo,” he said.

“Every night they need to wake up all the vampires and get them ready for night time activities.

“All our staff wear full make-up and fangs every night. They need a flair for costumes and don’t mind getting theatrical.”

Dracula’s has had three venue managers in 23 years, so Mr Schmid said the right person will be in it for the long haul.

“It is very family orientated,” Mr Schmid said.

“A lot of my casual staff have been here for six, eight, ten years or longer. The old venue manager had been with us for 15 years, and was the venue manager for seven.”

And as for what to wear to the interview – Mr Schmid recommends an outfit that shows off who you are. “We always say wear what reflects your personality,” he said.
