Tweed start-up serves up a win

-

TWEED start-up Blue Ginger Picnics is set to take on the nation’s best new tourism businesses after being named a finalist in the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards.

The family outfit won gold in the New South Wales tourism awards in the New Tourism Business Category for its alfresco dining experiences that have enticed locals and visitors from around the world to explore the Tweed.

Founder Tania Usher said the business set out to create elegant dining experiences that drew on the region’s fresh produce, rich history and indigenous culture.

“Sourcing from local artisans, serving only local produce and adopting a plasticfree philosophy are central to our community and sustainability-driven business,” Ms Usher said. “Our guests’ special moments are the reason we exist. We aim to take moments that are often gone in a flash and turn them into cherished memories.”

The awards were held at the Big Top Luna Park in Sydney and the national final will be held in Launceston on March 1.
