Norris and Wright set for coach duel

-

THE South East Queensland women’s division one rugby league competition is set to provide an intriguing coaching showdown.

Burleigh are chasing a fifth straight title under Jillaroos legend Tahnee Norris, while newcomers Tweed Heads will be guided by Kiwi Ferns coach Kelvin Wright.

Having publicly voiced her frustrations this year about a lack of opportunities to coach at higher levels, Norris will be pitted directly against someone who holds a Test role.

She played down any headto-head battle off the field though, saying her focus was simply on helping her players achieve their best.

“I just wish him (Wright) all the best, I hope he gets a full team together and they’re competitive,” Norris said.

She added it was a fillip for the competition to have yet another well credentialed mentor involved: “Yeah and I think that’s what has shown with the development of the game, is who is actually coaching.”

Wright said: “Tahnee has had a lot of success as a player and then as a coach at Burleigh. I’m sure I could learn a lot off her.”
