Lyon tunes up for big stuff

-

NATHAN Lyon has spun NSW to a 104-run victory over Western Australia in the first ever Sheffield Shield clash at Optus Stadium in Perth.

Set 317 for victory, WA were dismissed for 212 shortly before lunch on the final day.

Marcus Stoinis top-scored with 81 off 96 balls but he had little support.

Lyon finished with 4-86 to go with his first-innings haul of 3-34, while Trent Copeland and Sean Abbott finished with three wickets apiece.

The Warriors resumed on the final day at 6-115, and added just nine more runs before Ashton Agar (24) holed out to Lyon in the deep.

Lyon copped some punishment from Stoinis, who cracked seven fours and three sixes in his quick-fire knock.

The Warriors had their toporder to blame, slumping to 6-64 in their run chase before Stoinis gave them faint hope of victory.

Shaun Marsh fell for a duck after his gritty 81 in the first innings.
