Kurrawa’s sprint joy

-

KURRAWA beach sprinters had every reason to be jumping for joy after charging to a rare piece of world championship history on the sands of Glenelg beach yesterday.

The eight “beachies” combined to win the club’s first ever world championship beach relay double.

First off were the girls and the reigning Australian champions lined up against the 2017 champions in Currumbin.

And the team of Bree Masters, Nicole Kay, Taylor Sticker and Casie Fyall stormed home to take the money.

Next Kurrawa’s men, Jason Gough, Sam Mispelhorn, Sam Ross and Conor Loughnan, charged home to add a second gold for coach and long-time mentor Ryan Hoffman.

“I think we’ve won the double maybe once at the Aussies – we would always either win gold and silver to the girls or the other way around,” said Hoffman.

“But never at the worlds – that was just amazing – they are a great bunch of athletes who deserve their titles.”
