STEAMY START TO SUMMER ON COAST
THE first day of summer has kicked off with flawless sunshine for the Gold Coast, and there’s a fine and sunny outlook for the weekend.
The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting temperatures to reach 31C around most of the Coast before the weather heats up tomorrow, predicted to top 35C at Nerang.
Jessica Allen takes Elsie, 3, to the Broadwater rockpools to cool down and said the warm weather was the perfect excuse to get outside.
“Now that it’s getting hot we often pop down to the rockpools after school to freshen up,” she said.
A Bureau of Meteorology spokesman said temperatures in the Gold Coast area were above average.
October was the wettest month the hinterland has seen all year, with 784mm recorded at lower Springbrook between September and November.
Coolangatta recorded the Coast’s hottest temperature for the season, peaking at 35.8C on Wednesday when conditions were 7.5C above average for November. Coolangatta also recorded the city’s coldest day of spring in September when the mercury struggled to reach 18.1C.
