A Gold Coast woman is charged over the alleged assault of a four-year-old girl who was under the watch of the Department of Child Safety. It is later revealed the department had attempted to reunite the family despite a pot-smoking and violent mother having bashed the daughter. The four-year-old girl sustained a fractured face and acquired brain injury after allegedly being hit by her 21-year-old mother. It took months after the bashing before the mother, like her male partner, was required to undergo drug testing.
