Man arrested after double axe attack

-

A CARAVAN park resident near Gladstone allegedly took a tomahawk axe to his neighbours in a sickening double murder on Thursday night.

In what has been described as a “horrific” and “gruesome” attack, the 64-year-old allegedly struck a 63-year-old man in the head with the axe outside his home at the Calliope Caravan Park about 5pm. It is alleged he also took the axe to the man’s de facto partner who was living in a nearby caravan.

The woman died at the scene while the man was transported to Gladstone Hospital where he also later died.

Police were still investigating the motive of the attack.

Detective Inspector Darrin Shadlow said the alleged culprit was found in a nearby park.

All three were known to each other, and were longterm residents of the caravan park.

“Both scenes were quite horrific for both police and emergency services,” Det Insp Shadlow said.
