Jail guard ill over package

A GUARD at Adelaide’s Yatala prison is in a stable condition in hospital after being exposed to a suspicious package thrown over the fence of the jail.

Police, paramedics and fire crews were called to the suburban Northfield facility yesterday morning.

“One staff member has been taken to hospital in a stable condition with an unidentified illness,” Department for Correctional Services Deputy Chief Executive Jackie Bray said.

The area was declared safe after about two hours. The package was seized for testing.
