CHRISTMAS LIGHTS GUIDE

- EMILY HALLORAN

AN Upper Coomera family was doubtful they would be able to enter this year’s Christmas lights competition after a storm destroyed most of their display.

The Keeverses were planning to enter their family home at 26 Jagera Dve (right) for the seventh year in the annual competition but when the storm damaged thousands of dollars worth of lights the day before the competition opened they believed their chances were shot.

Fortunately the family has great neighbours who lent a helping hand and managed to salvage the display so they could still enter.

Brain Keevers said all of his neighbours love the display which regularly attracts up to 3000 people in a night.

“It’s for the kids, but I think we are all young at heart and everyone enjoys the lights,” he said.

“It’s always been a bit of a hobby but now the kids have gotten older, the display keeps getting bigger.”

He said the secret to his bedazzling display is that he has a theme.

“I only use pink, white and blue lights as it stands out and I think it looks better than the traditional red and green ones,” he said.

Mr Keevers was reluctant to say how much money he has spent on the extravagant displays over the years but admitted he spends more than 80 hours putting up the display.

He says he will continue setting up the display for years to come.

The Keevers family lights display has been been voted in the top 12 best Christmas lights by Gold Coast City Council.
