New doses to stomach
AN electronic pill has been created that can be controlled wirelessly in the stomach to deliver perfectly timed drug doses for up to a month.
Massachusetts Institute of Technology scientists claim that their hi-tech capsule, which is swallowed as normal, could eventually be controlled at home by Bluetooth.
When in the stomach the device extends arms that lodge it in place. It has been designed to provide drugs for a variety of conditions that require medication over longer periods of time, especially those that need strict and regular doses.
The research was published in the Advanced Materials Technologies journal. Once all of its doses have been released, the tiny device breaks apart and leaves the body harmlessly through the digestive tract.
