FARMERS are right to vent their anger at Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, blaming her weakness for allowing the Greens to ride roughshod over her and forcing her to introduce the outrageous ‘Vegetation Management Act’.

The Act prevents land clearing and winter pre-burning of thick ground cover, which is the perfect fuel to ignite huge bush fires, as we saw in Queensland recently.

Back in the day, winter preburning was an annual event until the tree huggers made their appearance and began preaching their weird Green Gospel.

For God’s sake, under this useless Labor Government (in bed with the Greens), farmers are not even allowed to cut trees down on their own land to cultivate crops.

Nor can they clear trees and ground cover to make firebreaks around their properties. This is absolute lunacy. No wonder our farmers regard Labor and the Greens as their enemy. KEN WADE TWEED HEADS AUSSIES are being asked to donate to starving people in Yemen, a country torn apart by the hatred between the two branches of the Muslim religion.

American arms are being used by Saudi Arabia for the government forces and Iran supply the Houthi Rebels.

On top of all that, Yemen is the most corrupt country in the region, so just think where any donation may end up.

Certainly some of it could end up in already rich pockets. Australia has already given $23 million since 2017 and $350 million to the UN for the same situation.

Think of the hospitals and schools that $373 million could have built in Oz.

Check it on GOOGLE people, its all there in detail. VERN EVES, TWEED THE solution to obesity is not high taxes on cigarettes and beer.

Simply observe people, of all ages, at lunchtime in any food mall and look at what they are eating.

Frequently those that look as though they have a bean bag stuffed in the their shirt, will have a bucket of chips and gravy or some such fatty mountain of stuff, plus a bottle of sugary lolly water.

Even after school we see kids, with a parent, eating all sorts of takeaway food. One wonders what Mum has prepared for tea.

Eating education is the key to the overweight problem, not putting up taxes. If beer was $20 a glass and cigarettes were $100 a packet, people would still pay.

Too many overweight people, particularly the young, are learning to eat too much and eat the wrong type of food and drink.

This should be the focus of any obesity campaign. DICK SAYER, ROBINA SO the mayor wants to build a cableway to Springbrook so that people can enjoy its natural beauty yet wants to destroy Black Swan Lake.

Both should be preserved and protected for the sake of ourselves and our future generations.

I’ve lived in Springbrook and seen first-hand the destruction and disrespect caused by tourism, plus the littering, vandalism, and graffiti, not to mention the countless wildlife killed on the roads by speeding cars.

Bringing more tourist to this area will only cause more of this.

It’s those certain type of tourists that make all tourists look bad unfortunately. No wonder Springbrook residents want to protect this precious part of the world and are opposed to the cableway.

Cherish the fading wild lands and wildlife that we still have. JOY MARLEY IN the GCB (14/12) Mark Bailey, yet again, tries to build up the Palaceshack government as actually doing something to improve the parking lot known as the M1.

The amount your Labor/union government is spending is a pittance and not even up to bandaid standard. You criticise the LNP for not improving the M1 while in power (less than 3 years).

Everyone knows it was Mr Bailey’s government that left the coffers bare after years of financial mismanagement.

Can you tell me how the Palaceshack government could run this state into the ground with an $85,000,000,000 debt & yet bugger all is spent on our transport infrastructure? Tell us something factual for a change as we are sick of your fairytales! RICHARD GAGIE ORMEAU The Greens and their continual whingeing about nearly everything is a great form of entertainment.

But unfortunately, when one of them is given power – such as the Mayor of Tweed Katie Milne, it ceases being funny.

Their ridiculous statements are a form of amusement but their actions hinder or stop progress and therefore stop much needed infrastructure.

My question is: Who voted for these people and why? ROD WATSON SURFERS PARADISE
